How to Prevent and Respond to Sexual Assualt?

  • Every 92 seconds, a person is sexually assaulted in the United States.*

  • On average, there are 321,500 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States. *

  • Young women are especially at risk.*

  • 82% of all juvenile victims are female.*

  • 90% of adult rape victims are female. And females ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault.*

  • Men are victims of sexual assault too. 1 out of 10 rape victims are male.*

In the light of #MeToo movement, these troubling statistics are not surprising. In fact, we know that sexual assault is a societal issue that affects each and every one of us. Patriarchal mindsets, gender inequality and, widespread impunity are for a big part responsible for the sheer volume of sexual assault that occurs in our society every day.
